Plastic Energy and Sabic sign agreement with Afvalfonds Verpakkingen for chemical recycling of plastic packaging waste

The Packaging Waste Fund Foundation (Afvalfonds Verpakkingen, the packaging producer responsibility organisation in The Netherlands) is going to work together with Sabic and Plastic Energy to enable advanced recycling of packaging waste. They entered into a cooperation agreement to supply difficult-to-recycle plastic packaging waste to SABIC and Plastic Energy’s chemical recycling plant SPEAR in Geleen (SABIC Plastic Energy Advanced Recycling BV).

They start with the supply of films from post-separated residual waste and, in addition, are also investigating the possibilities of supplying plastic packaging waste that is mechanically difficult or not recyclable. With this pilot they are investigating whether and to what extent this recycling technique can provide added value for plastic material flows that are currently difficult or not recyclable.
