Shell Chemicals to Purchase Entire Pyrolysis Oil Production from RES Group

Shell Chemicals Europe has entered into an agreement to acquire the entire pyrolysis oil production capacity of RES S.p.A. (RES). The oil will be produced at the plastic recycling facility in Pettoranello del Molise, one of the most advanced installations in Europe.

The recycling plant in Pettoranello del Molise is being developed using BlueAlp technology and is expected to be fully operational in the first half of 2026. The facility will be capable of processing up to 20,000 tons of plastic waste annually and will have a production capacity of 15,000 tons of pyrolysis oil per year. This process enables the conversion of plastic waste—otherwise destined for incineration or landfill—into a valuable feedstock for the chemical industry. The plant will employ approximately 20 workers.

The agreement will take effect on June 1, 2026. Additionally, Shell has secured an option to purchase extra volumes from a potential second facility that RES Group may develop in the future. The deal is expected to generate an annual additional revenue of over €20 million for RES Group.
